Doughnut Plant.

Williamsburg’s Bedford Avenue strip just got a very familiar coffee shop, and it’ll get another one in a month or so. Doughnut Plant, the Lower East Side-born coffee-and-doughnuts dispensary, just opened its sixth location, at 198 Bedford, on the corner of N 6th, and the tenth outpost of Hungry Ghost is due to follow just a couple of blocks away, at 231 Bedford.

Hungry Ghost.

We’re told Hungry Ghost is expected to open in the former Whisk space in four or five weeks. Meanwhile, you can head over to Doughnut Plant for one of the insanely delicious sourdough donuts the chain just launched.

In addition to coffee drinks made with house-brand beans, there are ever-trendy turmeric and matcha lattes. And a recent addition to the drinks menu: An iced dirty horchata, containing two shots of espresso, that’s a brilliant substitute for the homemade chai tea.

Needless to say, pumpkin season is in full effect here. Among the couple dozen doughnut varieties are a yeast-based one glazed with pumpkin and spiced pumpkin seeds, a cake-style version of the same, and a pumpkin-filled variety as well. Exclusive to this location is a “pop-up” flavor: a slightly smaller, rounder “doughseed” stuffed with peanut butter and Concord grape.

While not exactly a hang spot, the narrow space has seating for anyone who wants to tap into wifi and perch on banquettes cleverly decorated with ceramic doughnuts. As one doughnut-addicted customer was heard to say, “Oh my god, why are they doing this to me? This is dangerous.”
