Joel Guy murder trial: Tennessee detective testifies about finding hands, head

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WBIR) — Knox County Prosecutors Leslie Nassios and Hector Sanchez called a series of witnesses Tuesday who testified about the long list of evidence taken from the Guys’ home on the second day of the trial of Joel Michael Guy Jr.

Knox County investigators found a vast and disturbing amount of evidence in the Nov. 26, 2016 homicides of Joel and Lisa Guy in their Goldenview Lane house in West Knox County, testimony at trial showed Tuesday.

Prosecutors say Guy killed first his father and then his mother, and then began cutting up their bodies in an effort to dispose of them. Guy, 32, is being tried in Knox County Criminal Court on charges of first-degree murder and abuse of a corpse.

Stephen Ballard, a Knox County Sheriff’s detective, the first officer sent to the home the day the victims were found on Nov. 28, 2016, testified Monday about seeing a pair of hands — one flexed and one balled up — on the floor of the upstairs exercise room. Inside, officers also found blood on walls and carpeting in several rooms.

They also eventually found Lisa Guy’s head in a stock pot on the kitchen stove as well as various body parts belonging to the couple in two tubs sitting on the master bathroom floor.
