This weekend, local record shops (at least, those haven’t morphed into DJ nights) are sure to be mobbed for Record Store Day’s Black Friday. One highlight in particular: To coincide with the 40th anniversary of Richard Hell and the Voidoids’ Blank Generation, there’ll be a limited-edition, double-LP rerelease of the seminal album, remastered by original engineer Greg Calbi. Now comes word that Hell himself will leave his book-filled East Village apartment and make two rare public appearances, signing copies of the record on Friday, Nov. 24 at 1pm at Generation Records in Greenwich Village and Saturday, Nov. 25 at 2pm at Rough Trade in Williamsburg.

As previously mentioned, the original album will be accompanied by alternate versions of “Love Comes in Spurts” and “Blank Generation,” from the original recording session at Electric Lady Studios in Greenwich Village; live recordings of those same songs from the band’s first appearance at CBGB on November 19, 1976; an alt version of “Who Says?”, from the later recording sessions at Plaza Sound Studios; an outtake titled “You Gotta Lose”; three tracks from a 1977 CBGBs show; an out-of-print single, “Oh”; and even a 1977 radio ad. The booklet will contain previously unpublished photos, an essay by Hell, images from his notebooks and papers, and a Q&A between Hell and bandmate Ivan Julian.

Here, courtesy of Rhino, are the track listings for the CD ($19.98, limited to 5,250 copies) and the vinyl ($31.98, limited to 4,500 copies), both of which will be out Friday.
